Sacramento County Public Law Library (“SCPLL”) explains in this policy what information we collect through saclaw.org, how we use it, and the choices available to you. By using the Site (https://saclaw.org), you agree to the practices described here.

1 – Information We Collect

Automatically, from every visit. When you browse the Site, we and our third-party service providers collect your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, the site you arrived from, and the date and time of your visit — mainly through the cookies described in Section 2.

Only when you provide it. We collect personal information when you:

• Contact us by email or a form on the Site (name, email address, message)
• Sign up for our email listserv (Constant Contact) for library news and event notices
• Create an account for free MCLE self-study videos in our online catalog (name and address)
• Book an appointment through the Site (for example, a passport appointment), which may redirect you to a third-party registration platform
• Make a donation or payment through the Site
• Register for a webinar, which may redirect you to a third-party registration platform

2 – Cookies & Similar Technology

The Site uses cookies and comparable technology for a few distinct jobs:

• Essential — keep core features working, such as remembering the contents of your cart while booking a paid appointment or completing a purchase.
• Analytics — Google Analytics reads usage patterns (pages viewed, time on site, general location) using cookies such as _ga and similar identifiers.
• Security — Google reCAPTCHA helps block spam and automated abuse on our forms.
• Functional — our translation and accessibility tools use cookies or local storage to remember your preferences.

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics broadly with Google’s opt-out browser add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout). Blocking cookies may disable some Site features.

3 – Third-Party Services We Use

Each service below may receive technical information about your visit (typically your IP address) under its own privacy policy, separate from this one.

• Google Analytics — Website usage analytics
• Google reCAPTCHA — Spam and bot protection on forms
• Google Maps — The interactive location map
• Google Translate — The on-site language-translation tool
• Accessibility widget – UserWay — Text resizing, screen-reader and display aids — confirm which of our two widgets is meant to stay live
• PayPal Payflow Pro — Payment processing for purchases made through our online store —document delivery and interlibrary loan delivery. Card details are submitted directly to PayPal’s Payflow gateway; SCPLL does not receive or store your full card number.
• PayPal (donation button) — Donation processing, separate from the Payflow checkout above; PayPal receives your payment details directly.
• Stripe script — Stripe’s script and tracking cookies load on every page of the Site, but Library checkout runs on PayPal Payflow.
• Eventbrite, Zoom, Humantix & similar — Registration for select MCLE webinars co-hosted with other law libraries — review their own policies before registering.
• Constant Contact — If you wish to receive email notices about library news and upcoming events, you may register for our email listserv. The library’s listserv is hosted by Constant Contact, a marketing cloud service. Email addresses provided for this purpose are not used in other ways, nor are they shared with third parties other than our listserv host.

4 – How We Use Information

We use the information above to operate, maintain, and improve the site, answer your questions and requests, process appointments, donations, and payments; send the listserv communications you signed up for; administer MCLE self-study accounts; and understand Site usage so we can improve it. We do not use this information to make automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on you.

5 – We Do Not Sell Your Information

SCPLL does not sell or rent your personal information to third parties and does not share it with outside parties except as described in this policy — for instance, passing information to a service provider like PayPal Payflow, PayPal, or an event-registration platform solely to complete the transaction or service you requested.

6 – Data Retention

We keep personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes in this policy — for example, for the life of your listserv subscription or MCLE account — or as required by law.

7 – Your Choices

You may decline to provide personal information, though this may limit features like booking an appointment or creating an MCLE account. Unsubscribe from the listserv anytime via the link in any email we send, or by contacting us. You may also control cookies through your browser settings, as described in Section 2.

8 – Children’s Privacy

The Site is intended for general public use and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can address it.

9 – Data Security

We maintain reasonable physical, electronic, and administrative safeguards designed to protect the personal information we collect. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10 – Links to Other Sites

The Site links to third-party sites, including our library catalog, payment processors, and event-registration platforms. This policy does not apply to those sites — please review their privacy policies separately.

11 – Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision; we encourage you to check back periodically. Effective date:10/8/2026
